Antimo Magnotta, the pianist who miraculously survived the Costa Concordia disaster, has released his brand new album ‘Inner Landscape’. The record was written in memory of the 32 lives that were lost on the Costa Concordia. The tribute features devastating track ‘32’, in which the main melody is formed by 32 notes, each one an ode to the victims. Speaking about the album, Magnotta said:
“This work reflects my introspective thoughts, my own emotional geography, right after the horrifying disaster…I found solace in my music and I hope it will serve as a reminder of the restorative power of art and the resilience of the human spirit.”
Having abandoned music in the aftermath of the disaster, as he came to terms with the enormity of his life being turned upside down and the loss of close friends, he eventually returned to the piano and composed Inner Landscape as a way self-medicating, whilst also seeing it as a way of guiding others through dark times in their lives.
